S. 36 And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” Mark 7:36, 37
E. The people witnessing the miracle of a deaf nonspeaking man being healed and were astonished beyond measure. Even though Jesus told them seriously not to spread the news of what happened the people were so excited they eagerly shared it saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
A. No doubt witnessing a miracle of Jesus was an astonishing event. It would be so exciting to see someone who was unable to hear and speak suddenly and immediately attain or regain those abilities to hear, interact, and easily communicate without physical barriers. I believe, especially if it was a loved one who you had wanted to converse with or hear from. What a joyous event. Jesus warned them emphatically not to share what had happened, to keep this amazing event to themselves. Often times it's mentioned that he would take the person brought to Him away from the crowd to a more private place where the healing would occur. I am sure it seemed like everyone around them was not listening to what Jesus was saying to them. So many people who were brought to Jesus were healed and it may have felt like everyone knew someone who Jesus had touched, spoke to, or declared to be healed and then they were. Could we have exciting news about something Jesus has done, or perhaps something we believe He will do in our lives, that Jesus wants us to keep private? Could we stop and ask the Spirit if this is something we should share or should we keep it to ourselves. Mary the mother of Jesus was given some tremendous new about the birth of her son in Bethlehem by shepherds who had witnessed a host of angles proclaiming His birth. Were told that by Luke that, "Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart." Luke 2:19
R. Lord, direct us in the things You are doing in our lives and guide us as to whether we are to share them or not. Could it be that more glory could be reveled in our silent contemplation of what has happened than excitedly sharing it?
CH. Lord, as I am amazed by Your interaction in my life and thrilled by what You are doing help me to ask if this is a private or public revelation. Do I share or keep it in my heart to ponder? Lord, today let me understand the difference.
